Pen & Ink Princeton

At our small town library, where I work as a librarian, we have started a writing club. Every meeting we choose a prompt and take ten minutes to write. Occasionally I write a little bit that makes me feel as if I have created something worth remembering and sharing.

On this post I will share the prompt, and the subsequent writing.

What moment in history effected you most?

I don’t remember the most impactive moment of my life. After the fact, I was told it was an accident. That was a tease. It was more of a surprise.

My two sisters won, that day. Their expectations were answered. My brothers sighed in defeat. The four of them had stood on the grass holding onto our father’s hands. They looked up towards the sky, squinting in the bright July sunshine, screwing up their eyes to focus on the upper story window. They had been waiting for the sign.

My father already knew the answer, yet he grinned with anticipation. The sign appeared.

 “It’s A Girl!”

That day was my birthday, that teensy tiny blip in the history of mankind was the moment I first filled my lungs with air.
